The Alexanders

This week kept us very busy with "end of semester" activities.  Friday night we had our "senior send-off" where the students paid tribute to the graduating seniors, and then gave testimonies about how they had impacted their lives.  People are already arriving on campus for graduation, which is on Friday night, even though final exams are still ongoing until Wednesday.  To continue reading the update from Ed Alexander, please click on the link below. On Friday evening we had our music recital for second semester.  Jan had 14 piano students who participated.  Her English class also sang (learning songs in another language is one interesting way to learn).  Our voice and flute students also performed.  We had a fairly large cake, but they managed to eat it all! Jan flew out last Monday evening and her mother passed away while Jan was en route.  The funeral was on Thursday in Greenville and the family felt it went well and that mom and her Lord were honored.  Our son, Ed, and his family were able to be at the funeral and Jan enjoyed being with four of our grandkids for a couple of days.  To continue reading the update from Ed Alexander, please click on the link below. We only had half the normal attendance at our Married Student's Bible Study on Friday night, due to sickness and work schedules.  Jan taught on Psalm 23 and I taught the men about resolving conflicts in ministry.  That's a pretty big subject of one hour, but I was able to give them an overview of some common scenarios.  To continue reading the update from Ed Alexander, please click on the link below. Yes, the paperwork for the sale of a portion of the seminary property was signed on Thursday!  The lawyers were still making minor adjustments to documents at the notary, but Barry was finally able to sign, finalizing the deal.  To continue reading the update from Ed Alexander, please click on the link below. We rejoice that we were able to finish the transaction for the new church property!  The money had to be changed into Brazilian reais, and then deposited into two different seller's accounts.  The Brazilian banks gave us several hoops to jump through as well as daily transfer limits, but I was able to make the final transfer today.  To continue reading the update from Ed Alexander, please click on the link below. On Friday we had our last couples' bible study of the semester.  Friday morning I taught my last class, and Friday night the students hosted a "roast" for the graduating seniors.  In typical Brazilian style, they made fun of them with skits, then followed with testimonies abouth how they had been a blessing in their lives.  It was encouraging to hear the testimonies of all who were involved that night. On Wednesday we had our Day of Prayer for this semester.  Pastor Jonas, a graduate of 7 years ago, who pastors a church on the other side of Curitiba was our speaker.  He gave a brief but interesting devotional on the prayer of Elijah on Mount Carmel.  Then we had opportunities to pray for all of our 340+ graduates.  To continue reading the update from Ed Alexander, please click on the link below. We had a good first week of classes, and at this point, the students are happy.  It also warmed up over the weekend, which definitely helps.  Jan told me to wait three months and see how the mood on campus is!  She is right, as the semester grinds on and the work piles up, the mood gets heavier.  But we will enjoy their light-heartedness for now.  To continue reading the update from Ed Alexander, please click on the link below. Thank you for praying for our Bible Conference.  We were able to have it "in person" for the students and one of the speakers was able to be present.  It was a wonderful conference with good messages.  Our students responded very well.  One student said to Jan "I have never attended a conference that made such a big difference in my life!"  To continue reading the update from Ed Alexander, please click on the link below.
