Learning to be Content
If you lose the battle in your mind, you can forget having joy.
When your mind is being attacked by Satan, you are not enjoying the Christian life.
We need to know how to have a secure mind.
Once you get a contented mind, we need to learn how to keep it.
God wants you to live “DAY BY DAY, IN VICTORY”
We have security on all of our things, home, phone, ipad, computer, bank accounts and all of these things ,
while our mind is left open (no security on our mind)
God’s word says “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus”
Mark 5:15, Romans 8:7; 12:2; 2 Corinthians 8:12; James 1:8
There is great power in correct thinking.
There is also great Power in consistent thinking.
When I think right , my mind is secure
Example of Paul
When you are wrongly accused, locked up, broke, alone, away, strapped, slowed down, sick, mistreated, punished unlawfully, then remember the account of When Paul and Silas where in prison together. In Acts 16” They had been beaten, they were sitting in the cold dirty mire of a prison, they were locked in stocks. And they were SINGING AND PRAYING.
Wherever you are, you can always REJOICE IN THE LORD. He loves you, even when people don't.
Example of Paul and Silas in Prison: Acts 16:26-34
You cannot control what happens to you on the outside, you can control what happens to you on the inside.
Forget about Paul’s circumstances on the outside:
Lonely, criticized, hungry, persecuted, etc.
What is Paul’s inside condition? (GRATEFUL).
Have you stopped being grateful?
When you are tempted to be discouraged, remember:
Your name is written down in heaven.
You are a born again child of God.
The worst that can happen is for you to die and go to heaven.
You need to learn to get happy when the world tells you there is nothing to be happy about.
A LOVING CONTRIBUTION
“Being thankful for what other people have done for me.”
I can rejoice in the goodness of God, but also I can rejoice in the goodness of God’s people.
Stop looking at the bad things and start looking at the good people that love you.
When you are in trouble, there are people that love you, and care about you.
Let me say that in your deepest darkest hour, there are people in you life that actually care about you.
Our minds are all over the place, because we let them wander down valleys and alleys where they don’t belong. We need to redirect our mind and realize how good God is.
Be grateful. It is hard to be grumpy and thankful at the same time.
Care for you is not always shown by contributions.
You lose your joy when you start thinking that people owe you something.
The happiest people I know are not the people who are in the best financial condition. They are people who are born again, who have made up their minds to be thankful.
Everyone can say THANK YOU
We should make it a point to communicate gratitude, even in little things.
“For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith be CONTENT.”
Paul learned it, it didn’t come naturally!
Have you learned to be content?
2 Timothy 3:7
Learn to be OK with whatever God gives you. You will be less focused on what you don’t have, when you are more thankful for what you do have.
What in your life did you complain about this past week that you could not change?
We complain about what we cannot change, and do nothing about what we can change.
