How to Develop Teenagers for the Lord
Fault lines in the earth are often not seen, but when they create earthquakes, those are seen. So are the faults in a teenager's heart if not dealt with.
Fault Line #1 - A Walk with God
Example(s): Enoch; Noah
Key Bible Passages: Gen. 5:22-24, 6:9; 2 Cor. 4:16; 1 John 2:13-14
Teaching Points
- Being with God is more important than Doing for God
- Walking with God must be the top priority for a believer
- Look for who God is in the text of scripture
Seeing Points
- Let them see and hear from your personal devotions (Deuteronomy 6)
- Purchase/Show them some Bible study tools
Fault Line #2 - Authority
Example(s): Joseph; Daniel; Jesus
Key Bible Passages: Pro. 30:11, 17; Rom. 13:1-4; Heb. 13:7, 13; 1 Pet. 5:1-11
Teaching Points
- All authority is ordained and delegated by God
- Authorities will not always do everything right (doesn't give freedom to disobey)
- Submission to my authority is an attitude of submitting to what God has brought into my life
Seeing Points
- Let them hear you pray for and submit to authority
Fault Line #3 - Teachability & Tenderness
Example: King Josiah
Key Bible Passages: 2 Kings 22:19; Psalm 25:4-5; Pro. 9:9; Eph. 4:32
Teaching Points
- Teach them to respond at an invitation
- Teach them the tender heart
- Teach them how to respond to rebuke

- Be a good rebuker
Fault Line #4 - Handling Hurt
Example: Joseph
Key Bible Passages: Genesis 50:20; Psalm 37, 142; Ephesians 4:31-32; Heb. 12:14-17
Teaching Points
- Be careful how dealing with hurt
- hurt will often come from brothers & friends
Seeing Points
- Be careful of talking about old hurts in front of children
- Show forgiveness
- Listen to your children when they are hurt, but give them Biblical help
- Don't give them the attitude that "they have been wronged"
