The Directive to Discipline - Ephesians 6:4
- The parents are to train their kids for God
- Overcome the natural tendency to not deal with problems for the sake of the child
The Differences in Discipline - Ephesians 6:9
- We are to model after God when we discipline
- decide the discipline according the the sin: rebellion, thoughtful disobedience, etc.
The Disciplining of Rebellion - What to do
- Identify that it is rebellion
- Active rebellion - outwardly showing rebellion with an action
- Passive rebellion - conveniently forgetting, external obedience but with an attitude
- Rebellion is when the child knowingly places his will above the will of his parents
- Deal with the rebellion - Proverbs 23:13-14
- Latin word vetus - to strike or to swat
- Parents are instructed by the word of God to spank children
- The rod is a light object, not heavy, to reprove the child
- Biblical chastisement will bear forth fruit
- chastisement - an action out of love, happens swiftly, brings children and parents together in love
- abuse - an action out of anger, response is late, alienates children from parents
- An act of spanking is an act of love
