Bible Text: Luke 9:28-36 |

Thought on Prayer: Changed while praying! What a truth to think about! Prayer can transfigure a person’s countenance and character. Oh, may it be said of the Christians here in our church that we have been changed by Prayer.

  • The Place of the prayer
    • The Physical Place
      • Mount Hermon
    • The Spiritual Place
      • It was Purposeful
      • It was Private
      • It was Personal
  • The People of the Prayer
    • The Earthly People
      • Peter, James & John
    • The Heavenly People
      • Moses - a picture of the law, which Christ fulfilled - Romans 10:4 / Galatians 3:21-25
      • Elias (Elijah) - Pointed towards Christ - 1 Peter 1:10-12
  • The Purpose of the Prayer
    • Revealed - who Jesus was
    • Revealed - who Jesus would be
    • Revealed - the Importance of Eternity
      • Deuteronomy 34:5-6 / 2 Kings 2:11
    • Revealed - Jesus alone is worthy of our prayers
      • Notice Peter’s silly suggestion in the passage.
    • Revealed – Time apart will change us
    • Revealed – Jesus alone should be our motto.

The following song was inspired by a tract written by Lilias Trotter, a missionary to Algeria. Trotter was writing about the difficulty of maintaining focus while living in a world that provides us with so many choices. She gave this prescription for keeping one’s life moving in the right direction:

Turn your soul’s vision to Jesus, and look at Him,
and a strange dimness will come over all that is apart from Him.

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the savior
And life more abundant and free.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace.
