Bible Text: John 1:43 | Steve Damron
A study of the Compassion of Christ
Introduction: I would like to consider what the Bible has to say about compassion. The life of Christ is categorized by many events, parables and miracles. However, I would like to look at one aspect that defines Jesus real person – He was a compassionate person.
God is a compassionate God - Exodus 34:6; 2 Kings 13:23; Psalms 116:5; Isaiah 40:11
Christ is a compassionate Savior - Matthew 4:23-24; Luke 19:41; John 13:1
I. The compassionate life of our Savior
- He sought out men, John 1:43
- He waited for men, John 3:2
- He went out of His way for men, John 4:4-5
- He cared for any man, John 5:6-8
- He fed men, John 6:11
- He satisfied the thirst of man, John 7:37
- He brought light to man, John 8:12
II. A Story from the Gospel’s
Luke 10:36-37 – The Good Samaritan
Christ’s typifies 4 classes of men
- The Priest
- The Thieves
- The Levite
- The Samaritan
III. A challenge given by our Savior
Go and do thou likewise - Luke 10
Matthew 25:40 / John 4:35
Conclusion: How are you like the Savior in this area? Have you fallen short? Are you cold and indifferent to those that walk around you? We need to be a compassionate church that reaches this lost world with the light of the glorious Gospel.
