No Room in the Inn
Have you ever had anyone give you directions and then add the words, “You can’t miss it!”? How many of us have heard those words only to completely miss it? It is possible to miss something, even with it right in front of you! Did you know most people miss Christmas every year? That may sound like a ridiculous statement, particularly in America, where holiday advertisements bombard us starting right after Labor Day. Yet many folks who participate in Christmas celebrations are oblivious to the true reality of what it is they are celebrating. They participate in many activities and may even grace a church service or Christmas concert but they miss the main event: Jesus Christ.
We can miss it by being preoccupied
Example: The Innkeeper (Luke 2:4-7)
We can miss it through fear
Example: King Herod (Matthew 2:1-3, 13)
We can miss it through religion
Example: The Jewish leaders (Matthew 2:4-6)
Thoughts about “What Child is This?”Who is this—Christ the Lord. Don’t miss the point of Christmas. We should bring Him our soul for salvation. Christ can redeem the sinner. We should bring Him our worship and our most precious possessions—this as believers should be our desire at Christmas.
